The idea of the Hamburg based agency Nordpol+ was to embark on an odyssey through a magical landscape showcasing purity of design above all else. The upshot: a visual journey that is part rollercoaster ride and all madcap adventure.
The expedition begins with the camera following a lone, floating dandelion seed. Slowly, the environment emerges: the trees are vases, the flowers blanketing a hillside are really spherical lamps. Bright PS patterns bedeck the earth below. Nestled along a ledge, cleverly clustered PS couches preen in the sun. A skyline of clocks and bookcases appears as the camera tilts and swoops, speeds and slows—playfully lingering over a divine detail here and there before racing on.
And then we enter an ocean realm where cups and bowls swim in schools like fish, peppermill “coral” abounds, and the murky deep is lit up by glowing, jellyfish-like lamps. The journey ends as the dandelion seed finally finds its home in a signature, sphere-shaped lamp.
Screening in selected Berlin and Hamburg cinemas until March 19 (when it also opens in other cities), the film invites the viewer to experience a funky, unmistakably IKEA world … one Parasol had great fun bringing to life.
